Rule change proposals usually dominate discussions at the United States Hunter Jumper Association annual meeting. But there may be much bigger change afoot, says incoming USHJA president Mary Babick, as the gathering comes to the Palm Springs area Dec. 11-15. The lifelong hunter/jumper trainer and sport advocate anticipates that rule changes will take a back seat to debate about big picture concepts meant to bring equestrian sport in line with mainstream sports, especially in safety and integrity.

USHJA News: It’s time to apply for the Emerging Athletes Program & Regional Jumper Championships.

The Emerging Athletes program is a unique opportunity for young equestrians to advance their riding skills and learn horsemanship from some of the world’s best. Organized by the United States Hunter Jumper Association, the EAP is accepting applications for the first phase, the Regional Training Sessions. West Coast dates and locations are June 14-18 at Sonoma Valley Stables in Petaluma and July 1-5 at Whip N Spur Farm in Wilsonville, OR. Application deadlines are April 14 and May 5, respectively.
